Engagement Session Locations

Every one of these locations is unique — with its own set of rules, availability, and permissions. Some locations may book out quickly, require special approval, or be available only on specific days. Because of this, your top choice may not always be an option depending on timing and availability. Please keep in mind the time of year your session will take place in when browsing your options, and remember that these are NOT your only options. They are simply ideas and suggestions.

To keep things flexible and stress-free, I recommend choosing 2–3 favorite locations as possibilities. Keep in mind that venue fees listed here are based on the most current pricing available at the time this blog was written. Pricing may change at any time, and while I’ll do my best to keep this list updated, I can’t guarantee complete accuracy. Always confirm final pricing and availability before making a decision. From there, we’ll work together to determine the best fit based on your session date, lighting, and overall vision.

Choosing the right location can set the perfect tone for your engagement session. Whether you’re looking for stunning mountain views, elegant estates, cozy greenhouses, or charming chapels, this list offers a variety of options that photograph beautifully and reflect different styles and vibes.

Below is a curated list of some of my favorite locations, organized by aesthetic, with venue fees, helpful links, and travel notes to make your planning easy and stress-free.

Please note that the locations written in purple are my favorite recommendations, and not all of the places on this list have been used by my clients in the past. Some of them are places I am hoping to work at and that I think would be a great fit for you during the ALP experience.

If you have any questions about any of the locations, please reach out to me via email at ashley@ashleyloganphotography.com

Elevated Mountain Views & Parkway Vibes

These locations offer sweeping mountain overlooks, layered ridge lines, golden hour magic, and the natural, adventurous feel that so many of my couples love. If you are interested in seeing a gallery from any of these locations, please reach out to me. I share gallery links privately to maintain client confidentiality.

The Lump Overlook – Free

Blue Ridge Parkway (enter location manually in Google Maps)

Note: This is an outdoor location on the parkway, so exact directions require searching Google Maps. This location doesn’t include a “hike”, but it does require long walks up steep hills to reach the best views. There are some areas with lower elevations but the view is not as visible.

Doughton Park Picnic Area – Free

Blue Ridge Parkway (no physical address)

Search for “The Bluffs” restaurant on Google Maps nearby for reference. This is my most-used location due to its versatility. It is closed on certain days of the week. This location doesn’t include a “hike”, but it does require long walks up steep hills.

Alligator Back Overlook – Free

Blue Ridge Parkway (very close to Doughton Park)

No hiking involved. Note: This is an outdoor location on the parkway, so exact directions require searching Google Maps.

Rough Ridge – Free (Travel Fee: $70)

Blue Ridge Parkway

Note: this is a longer, more strenuous hike. If you are unsure about if this would work for you, please ask me about it. I recommend considering adding an additional 30 minutes to our schedule time at this location ($200).

Beacon Heights – Free (Travel Fee: $70)

Blue Ridge Parkway

Note: This is an outdoor location on the parkway, so exact directions require searching Google Maps.

Tips for Choosing a Meaningful Location

As you’re narrowing down your favorites, think about the places that feel most like you. Is there a trail you love to hike together? A town that holds a special memory? A backdrop that reflects your wedding vibe or shared lifestyle? Choosing a location with personal meaning can make your session feel even more authentic and emotional. While beautiful scenery is always a plus, it’s the connection you share and the story you’re telling that truly make the photos shine.
