A Picturesque Wedding at Pilot Mountain Vineyard

September 13, 2025, will forever be one of the most emotional and unforgettable days of my life. My little sister, Emiley, married the love of her life, Devin Willse, in a beautiful vineyard wedding at Pilot Mountain Vineyard & Winery in Pinnacle, North Carolina — and it was nothing short of magical. As a photographer, I’ve had the honor of capturing hundreds of weddings over the years, but this one was different.

I wasn’t just a vendor — I was the matron of honor, the sister, the proud family member, and at moments throughout the day, also the leader of the photography team. My husband Abram stood by Devin’s side as the best man, and our son had the special job of being the ring bearer. My two associate shooters were my best friends from college. This wedding was woven together by family, faith, and so many personal, heartfelt moments. It was deeply emotional in all the best ways.

A Dreamy Pilot Mountain Vineyard Wedding in Pinnacle, NC

Pilot Mountain Vineyard & Winery served as the perfect backdrop for Emiley and Devin’s romantic celebration. Tucked in the foothills of Pilot Mountain, this venue is known for its rolling vineyards, sweeping views, and peaceful elegance — and it lived up to every expectation. September in North Carolina is such a sweet time of year.

There’s a softness in the light, the air is just beginning to cool, and the landscape is still lush and vibrant. Their ceremony took place outdoors with the vines behind them and the distant outline of Pilot Mountain rising above it all. It felt calm, sacred, and exactly right.

Personal Touches That Made the Day Unforgettable

One of the things I loved most about this wedding was how personal everything felt. Emiley and Devin put so much thought and intentionality into every detail. From the ceremony to the reception, everything reflected them — their relationship, their faith, their love for family.

  • Before the ceremony, instead of a first look, they shared a first touch and a private prayer together.
  • They had a ring warming and unity braid during their ceremony.
  • Devin’s sister, Brooke, sang during the Mother and Son dance.
  • They ate dinner off of plates that they hand painted on a date.
  • They each wrote their own vows, filled with honesty and emotion. Listening to them speak from the heart with tears in their eyes — it was a moment I’ll never forget.
  • My son was the ring bearer and it was one of the sweetest things I have ever seen!
  • Instead of a traditional flower girl, they chose our cousins to be flower boys, and they brought both laughter and style to the aisle.
  • During the father-daughter dance, Emiley did something that completely wrecked me: she invited our entire immediate family onto the dance floor for the end of the song. As we stood there together, arms around each other, I was a total emotional mess — in the very best way.

Both sets of parents gave heartfelt speeches during the reception, sharing blessings, memories, and love. It made everything feel so intimate and real.

The Design: Soft Neutrals, White Florals & Natural Elegance

The design of the day was understated and romantic — a beautiful reflection of Emiley’s style. The color palette was built around soft neutrals, greens, and classic white florals. Everything felt timeless, airy, and elegant.

From the floral arrangements to the table decor, everything had a clean and organic feel that allowed the beauty of the vineyard and surrounding landscape to really shine through. It was effortlessly beautiful.

An Emotional Ceremony by the Vines

The ceremony itself was deeply emotional. There’s something about watching your little sister walk down the aisle, ready to start this new chapter with the man she loves — it hits different.

Standing beside her as matron of honor, with my husband standing beside Devin, and our son close by — it was one of those rare moments in life that feels both surreal and completely grounding all at once.

I watched Emiley and Devin laugh and cry as they exchanged their vows, surrounded by friends, family, and the quiet strength of the large trees that framed the ceremony site. The vineyard stretched out behind them, golden light danced through the trees, and it felt like time stood still.

Reception Highlights at Pilot Mountain Vineyard

As the sun dipped behind the hills, the party began under the soft glow of string lights and the wide Carolina sky. The reception was joyful, cozy, and full of love — the kind of celebration you never want to end.

  • The speeches from both sets of parents were deeply moving — full of gratitude, prayers, and stories.
  • My husband and I got to share speeches as well. I like to think mine was pretty funny, while Abram’s was very heartfelt. He pulled a stop watch out during the ceremony without Emi and Devin knowing, which he later gifted them at the reception.
  • The dance floor came alive quickly! Everyone was having a great time.
  • We stepped away for a few golden hour portraits among the vines, and I just know that they will treasure those images forever.

Being both a part of the reception as family and editing their wedding gallery was such a surreal experience!

What It Meant to Experience My Sister’s Wedding Day

Instead of photographing the day myself, I entrusted it to two of my associate photographers, Payton and Cooper — who also happen to be two of my best friends from college. Not only do I trust them completely with my clients, but they’re also close with Emiley, which made it feel even more special having them there during the wedding at Pilot Mountain Vineyard.

Watching them step in and serve so seamlessly allowed me to fully step into my role as matron of honor, sister, and family member — something I’ll never take for granted. I got to be in the moments instead of behind the camera, and that is a gift I’ll always cherish.

Being able to later go through and edit the images myself brought everything full circle. I was able to relive each moment, each tear, each laugh — and preserve it in a way that felt deeply personal. This experience reminded me just how important it is to not only trust your photographer, but to feel seen and cared for by the people documenting your day. It deepened my belief in what I offer my own couples — a team you can trust, and a legacy you can feel.

Emiley and Devin’s wedding day at Pilot Mountain Vineyard was everything a wedding should be — emotional, joyful, beautiful, and deeply personal. It was a celebration of love, of family, and of the quiet strength that comes from walking through life together.

To my sister and new brother-in-law: I love you both so much. Thank you for letting me play such a big part in your day — and for trusting me with capturing these once-in-a-lifetime moments.
